Instructional Design

Rebecca Vickers

The Instructional Design and Technology MicroMasters program through the University of Maryland’s Global Campus has provided me with a comprehensive foundation in designing, developing, and evaluating digital learning experiences. Over the past course sequence, I have explored a variety of systematic frameworks — including ADDIE, Dick & Carey, Understanding by Design, Rapid Prototyping, and the Successive Approximation Model (SAM) — to structure learning in both traditional and online environments.

Simultaneously, the program has deepened my understanding of learning theories — such as Experiential Learning, Project-Based Learning, and Universal Design for Learning — and shown me how to apply these principles to create inclusive, learner-centered instruction. For my course work I am exploring the integration of sustainability themes and the Sustainable Development Goals with art education, developing frameworks for courses that not only teach technical skills, but also empower young artists to become thoughtful, creative agents of change in their communities.
